I Could Not Believe My Eyes

I was starting to think I’d become
what I’d feared for so long
just a jaded romancer who gave
love away for a song

and I have to tell you
I thought I’d seen everything
under the sun
and then one rainy day you appeared

          and I could not believe my eyes
          they’ve been known to tell me lies
          lonely hearts can’t be trusted
          and looks can deceive
          and the first time I saw you
          I could not believe my eyes

Now, I know some would say “Love is blind”
but they’ve never loved you
for you’ve shown me a side of myself
that was hidden from view

and I’d like to thank you
for you awakened my senses,
opened my heart
and showed me the man I could be

          and I could not believe my eyes
          they’ve been known to tell me lies
          empty hands reach too quickly
          with hearts on their sleeves
          trying to take what they’re giving away
